Khalil Mustafin

He was detained on 20 February 2015 and arrested on charges of participating in the activities of a terrorist organisation in connection with his alleged involvement in the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which has no links to terrorism. In January 2016, he was additionally charged with preparing to seize power by force. On 30 July 2018, he was sentenced to 22 years in a strict regime penal colony. On 21 September 2020, the appellate court reduced Mustafin’s sentence by one year.

In 2014, he was a suspect in a case concerning involvement in an extremist organisation.
