On 14 May 2018, Aidar Galeev, a Muslim from Bashkortostan, was sentenced to two years of general regime penal colony on charges of involvement in the international Islamic religious movement Tablighi Jamaat ("Propaganda of Faith", hereinafter - PF), recognised as extremist and banned in Russia by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. According to the investigation, he organised events to "appeal" Muslims to follow the norms of Islam, agitated other Muslims to join the movement, organised and attended meetings, studied and stored PF literature. According to the investigation, he organised events to "appeal" Muslims to follow the norms of Islam, agitated other Muslims to join the movement, organised and attended meetings, studied and stored PF literature. He had been in custody since 13 July 2017. On 4 September 2018, the appeal court reduced the sentence to one year and nine months. He was released on 14 September 2018.
