Resident of Gorno-Altaisk, a city in Western Siberia. Worked as a psychologist, then in the field of cleaning and building maintenance. In 2000, a criminal case was opened against him for refusing to take up arms, the details are unknown. Kalistratov spent 21 days in custody, then he was released on recognizance not to leave. The court later acquitted him.

A case was opened against him for organising the activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement in the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses community. On 17 February 2023, Kalistratov was sentenced to six and a half years suspended prison sentence.
