Former director of the Novosibirsk theatre "Red Torch", father of Timofey Kulyabin, the director whose performance of "Tannhäuser" became the cause of a scandal and a case of offending religious feelings in 2014. After Timofey Kulyabin spoke out against the war in Ukraine, his father was being pressured. On 24 January 2023, Alexander Kulyabin was detained in an embezzlement case for appointing his son as chief director. Kuliabin Sr. was placed under house arrest. On 21 August 2023, the preventive measure was replaced by a ban on certain actions. Later it became known that Kulyabin was also charged with abuse
