Biography
Alexander Shumkov, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a Ukrainian citizen from the city of Kherson, is accused of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activity of an extremist organisation) for allegedly being a member of the "Right Sector", which is banned in Russia. It is known that Shumkov participated in the Maidan events, worked as a security guard for "Right Sector" leader Dmitry Yarosh in 2014, after which he joined the AFU, and, according to his relatives, was not a member of
Alexander Shumkov, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a Ukrainian citizen from the city of Kherson, is accused of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activity of an extremist organisation) for allegedly being a member of the "Right Sector", which is banned in Russia. It is known that Shumkov participated in the Maidan events, worked as a security guard for "Right Sector" leader Dmitry Yarosh in 2014, after which he joined the AFU, and, according to his relatives, was not a member of this organisation at the time of his detention. Shumkov's mother claims that he disappeared on 17 August 2017. According to the defence version, the car in which Shumkov was travelling was attacked not far from the Russian-Ukrainian border, and he was taken to Russian territory in an unconscious state. Shumkov was officially detained and placed in custody on 6 September 2017. In May 2018, he went on hunger strike in solidarity with convicted film director Oleg Sentsov. On 4 December, he was sentenced to four years in a general regime colony.
