Deputy of the Altai Territory Legislative Assembly from the CPRF. On 5 February 2026, he was searched and detained as part of a fraud case. According to the investigation, he fictitiously employed a fellow party member as his assistant, and embezzled the money allocated from the budget for her salary. On 7 February Kropotin was released on his own recognizance, before that he was questioned in Barnaul without his lawyer, and then taken to the railway station and sent to his hometown Rubtsovsk. Party associates did not know where he was for some time. They see the case as part of a political campaign. In November 2025, a case with a similar background was brought against another CPRF deputy of the Zaksoobrazhnaya Assembly Lyudmila Klyushnikova and her assistant Svetlana Kerber; they were also accused of fraud.
