Biography
Zakhtey was detained by the Federal Security Service in the village of Risovoye in the Krasnoperekopsk district of Crimea. According to the case materials, after he was detained, together with the Security Service officers, he went to the alleged place of meeting with Ukrainian saboteurs. Later, Zakhtey said that after torture he confessed to his participation in a sabotage-terrorist group. After some time, he refused the help of all lawyers and made a deal with the investigation.
On 16 February 2018, Zakhtey was sentenced to six and a half years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 220 thousand

On 16 February 2018, Zakhtey was sentenced to six and a half years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 220 thousand rubles (US$2,400). In February 2023, he was released, after which he was placed in a temporary detention centre for foreign nationals. In June, Zakhtey managed to leave Russia.
