He was detained when Russian ships blocked Ukrainian vessels in the Black Sea near Crimea, and wounded in the shelling on 25 November 2018. November 27 he was seized, accused of illegally crossing the Russian border, November 29 he transferred to the hospital of the pre-trial detention center «Matrosskaya silence». In January 2019 he was transferred to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention centre. He was released as part of the exchange of Ukrainian political prisoners in the Russian Federation for a group of people released by Ukraine and arrived on the territory of Ukraine on 7 September 2019.
