On 28 August 2014, the FSB officers conducted a search at Marchenko's place, during which they seized all office equipment and mobile phones. The next day, the blogger was charged at the regional department of the security service under Part 1 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls to extremism) for publishing a post on 8 July 2014 with statements about Russia's actions on the territory of Ukraine.
