In 2022 tried to run for governor as a self-nominee, but his candidacy was withdrawn from the election due to failure to submit documents for registration. It later became known that he was also accused of incitement to abuse of power with grave consequences. On 19 November 2025, Dolgikh was sentenced to one and a half years in a penal colony and released in the courtroom due to completion of his sentence. The charge of petty bribery was dropped due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, and the charge of incitement was reclassified to aiding and abetting abuse of power.
