On his phone, police found records of donations to the Ukrainian charitable foundation of Serhiy Prytula. He was detained, and officers drew up a protocol claiming that he had used obscene language in the lobby of a Volgograd police station. The next day, a court sentenced him to 13 days of administrative arrest for petty hooliganism (Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences). Immediately upon his release from the detention center, he was detained again and sentenced to 10 more days under the same article. A few days after the second hearing, he was beaten by unidentified individuals who demanded that he sign a confession, threatening to take him to the forest and kill him if he refused. Efimov refused. On January 15, 2024, he was taken into custody on charges of high treason and transported to Rostov-on-Don. On July 2, 2024, Efimov was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment in a strict-regime colony; the court cited his donations to several Russian charitable foundations as mitigating circumstances.
