Biography
A resident of the Vologda region, Shaban worked as an assistant to an electric locomotive driver. He was prosecuted for “insulting the feelings of believers” after posting a comment on VKontakte in response to news about Volgograd student Nikita Zhuravel, who had been convicted of burning the Koran and subsequently beaten by the son of the head of Chechnya. Shaban’s comment read: “Shall we all burn thousands of Korans? All together we will survive.”

Describing his detention, Shaban said: “As if I were a hardened criminal they detained me — with OMON, face to the floor — and took me 50 kilometres from home. They bent me in such a way that I later had to go on sick leave with back pain. First they took me to Centre ‘E’, then to the Cherepovets Investigative Committee, where they searched through my phone.”
On 23 July 2025, the court fined him 30,000 roubles.
