Before his detention, he worked as a journalist in the editorial office of the newspaper "Public Defender", covering the topics of arbitrary behaviour of law enforcement agencies, and was also engaged in human rights activities.
Detained on 28 July 2020, taken into custody on 31 July 2020. At that time, the journalist was investigating the involvement of the Drug Control Department of the Chelyabinsk Region in the operation of online drug shops.
In October 2021, the ECHR ruled that the journalist's preventive measure should have been changed. The court in Chelyabinsk refused to do so in January 2023. His lawyer reported that
