He was prosecuted for spreading deliberately false information about the Army Forces of the Russian Federation: according to the investigation, being detended in Penza penal colony No. 5 under the articles on embezzlement, intentional infliction of minor harm to health, theft and use of violence against a representative of the authorities, he "tried to create a negative image of the Russian military among other prisoners" - he told about the killing of civilians in Bucha and on Snake Island, as well as that the missile cruiser "Moscow" was burnt by the Ukrainian servicemen. On 30 September, 2022, Volkov was released from the colony and was placed under administrative supervision for eight years. On 17 October, he was sentenced to a one-year suspended sentence with a probation period of one and a half years.
