Biography
Specialist in laser physics, nonlinear optics and spectroscopy. Head of the Laboratory of Quantum Optical Technologies at Novosibirsk State University. He was engaged in fundamental and applied optical research, in particular, he developed spectroscopic devices for rapid analysis of exhaled air and gas analysers for unmanned aerial vehicles. On June 30, 2022, he was apprehended and taken into custody in a treason case. Immediately at the time of his detention, Kolker was in hospital on a drip and had stage four pancreatic cancer. He was transported from Novosibirsk to Moscow and placed in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention centre. On the

On the night of July 2,2022, Kolker died in hospital, where, according to an official telegram, he had been taken two hours before his death. Kolker was accused of divulging state secrets during lectures he gave in China, although the reports were certified to confirm the absence of state secrets and were given in the presence of an FSB officer.
