Elena Rodina

Resident of Moscow, lawyer. Maintained social media accounts with a small audience where she spoke out against Russian aggression in Ukraine, criticised Vladimir Putin's regime, called for the Russian government to be overthrowed, and urged Turks to "end the Armenian genocide" because propagandist Margarita Simonyan is Armenian. In December 2022, Rodina was summoned to the prosecutor's office, where administrative cases were opened under the article on incitement to hatred (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences). In February 2023, she was fined under this article for a series of posts calling for the overthrow of power, "aimed at humiliating the dignity of a person and a group of persons, inciting hatred and hostile actions against the President of the Russian Federation, the leadership of the Russian Federation, and representatives of the authorities." Rodina deleted the posts on her Telegram channel and VKontakte. On 30 March 2023, Rodina was taken into custody in a case of public justification of terrorism, details of the case are unknown. On 17 July 2023, a court dismissed Rodina's case and ordered that she be sent for compulsory treatment. Rodina also wrote to her correspondents that she had not been sent belongings and food from outside since her arrest in March, and that her daughter had become a witness for the prosecution. On 25 July, a person who tried to send Rodina a letter told OVD-Info that she had disappeared from the pre-trial detention center, where she was supposed to stay until August.
