He is a former employee of the Dagestan FSS. In 2017, Navruzbekov and his family fled Russia and sought political asylum in Poland. He received a refusal, appealed against it and in October 2022 again requested asylum. In December, he gave an interview to Vladimir Osechkin, the head of the Gulagu.net project, during which he spoke about the involvement of FSB officers in terrorist attacks and staged special operations. "Everything that criminal happens in the regions - in Chechnya, in Dagestan, this service is involved everywhere - in terrorist attacks, kidnappings," he emphasised. After the publication, the man's relatives began to be pressurised.

Navruzbekov's wife and their two children were granted asylum in Poland, but the former operative himself was handed over to Russian law enforcement agencies at a border checkpoint in the Kaliningrad region on the night of 6 June 2023. The Polish authorities considered his presence in the country to "pose a threat to the Republic of Poland". After his deportation, his lawyer Karinna Moskalenko said Navruzbekov would face torture in Russia. He was arrested in Kaliningrad for 10 days under an article on petty hooliganism, and on 17 June his administrative arrest expired. The next day he called journalists and told them that half an hour before his supposed release, five law enforcement officers arrived at the detention centre to take him to Moscow for further transfer to Dagestan. At the airport, he attempted to escape, but was captured.

On 12 February 2024, Navruzbekov was sentenced to a year and three months in a penal colony for libel. Presumably, he was released on 28 February 2024.
