He worked transporting cargo and passengers on his bus, which operated between Moldova, Ukraine, and Russia. On 6 April 2025, he and two alleged relatives were reportedly detained on a highway in Smolensk region: according to the protocols, they were travelling in two vehicles and refused to show their documents. The next day, all three were arrested for 15 days under Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences for disobeying lawful orders from government officials. It later emerged that a criminal case had been opened against Maroglo for a foreigner providing assistance to an adversary in activities deliberately aimed against Russia’s security, as well as for attempted smuggling of poisonous or explosive substances, weapons, equipment, technologies, or scientific and technical information. On 25 December 2025, he was sentenced to 11 years in a strict-regime penal colony.
