Gleb Shabliy

On November 15 2016, Shabliy was detained in Simferopol. The FSB circulated a footage in which Shabliy said that he was carrying out an assignment of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry. The Russian authorities thus presented Shabliy as a member of a sabotage group acting on the assignment of Ukrainian intelligence. Shabliy was taken into custody. Later in court, Shabliy said that after his detention he was beaten by tying his legs with duct tape.

However, Shabliy was never charged with sabotage and working for Ukrainian intelligence. Instead, he was charged with illegal manufacture of explosives and acquisition, storage and transport of explosives.

On October 23 2017, he was sentenced to five years of general regime and a fine of 120,000 rubles. On March 20 2018, the appeal instance ruled to exclude the fine from the punishment.

Later Shabliy was transferred to a colony in Ufa. In November 2018, it became known that Shabliy was taken from the colony to the pre-trial detention centre to participate in a meeting on the appeal of the prosecutor's office against the sentence. After the meeting, he was transferred to the pre-trial detention centre in Omsk.

He was released on March 5 2021.
