Son of a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya. In 2017, a case was brought against him for incitement of hatred towards Russian servicemen. Novaya Gazeta reported that in July 2018, Yangulbaev began complaining of abdominal pain, ambulance doctors diagnosed appendicitis, but the head of the medical unit of the pre-trial detention centre said that Yangulbaev was faking, and he was not hospitalized. On 11 July Yangulbaev was hospitalized after an appeal by a judge of the Zavodskiy District Court of Grozny and underwent surgery. On 20 July he was returned to the pre-trial detention centre despite the doctors' warnings about the possibility of complications. Yangulbaev received virtually no medical care in the pre-trial detention centre and was not given hot food from the café at the detention centre. During the trial, the prosecutor repeatedly accused Yangulbaev of criticizing the Chechen authorities and calling for protests. After the publication of the article in Novaya Gazeta, human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova contacted the head of the Chechen Federal Penitentiary Service, and on the night of 28 July Yangulbaev was hospitalized again.

After the partial decriminalization of the article on incitement to hatred, Yangulbaev was released. He later left Russia. Ibrahim and his brothers were declared terrorists by the Chechen authorities after they started to run the 1ADAT Telegram channel criticizing the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. The mother of the Yangulbaevs, Zarema Musaeva, was detained in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2022.
