On 12 May 2016, the Crimean Prosecutor's Office reported about the initiation of a criminal case on public calls aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation using the media or the Internet. The cause was Ilmi Umerov's speech in March 2016 live on the Ukrainian TV channel ATR.
