On 28 December 2010, during a rally of the "Volya" party, law enforcement agencies seized leaflets "Do Russians Want War?", which had been distributed at its rallies during the year. Results of a linguistic examination showed that statements in the text incited hatred against representatives of the peoples of the Northern Caucasus. On 5 May 2011, Ivan Volkov, an investigator of the Investigation Department of Vologda region, opened a criminal case under part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement to ethnic hatred).

The leaflets in question were "VOLYA, Who is blowing up Russia?" and "VOLYA, There are only days left to save Russia?".
On 24 December 2012, the Central Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Samara region distributed a message about a search for Churanov. According to law enforcement agencies, Churanov was on the territory of the Samara region. In 2015, the case went to trial. On 6 November 2015, a court sentenced Churanov to seven months of correctional labor.
