Konstantin Jankauskas

He is a former municipal deputy of the Moscow district of Zyuzino, and a researcher at the Institute of Market Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He tried to run for the Moscow City Duma in 2019, but his candidacy was withdrawn after allegedly noticing irregularities in the collection of signatures.

The reason for his prosecution in the "Wallet Case" was the fact that Yankauskas contributed one million rubles - in his words, it was his family's personal funds - to Alexei Navalny's election fund, and then compensated this money by collecting donations on his Yandex wallet. In May 2014, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on alleged fraud with this money. At first, Yankauskas was a witness in the case, then he became a defendant and was placed under house arrest, which prevented his registration as a candidate in the Moscow City Duma elections. Searches as part of this criminal case took place in four apartments of Yankauskas and his relatives. On 11 June 2015, house arrest was replaced with personal recognizance.

On 29 January 2021, Yankauskas was detained and then placed under house arrest on a criminal case of violating sanitary and epidemiological rules. He was later charged with incitement to violate the rules. On 7 April, a measure of restriction in the form of a ban on certain actions was chosen. After the new criminal case, Konstantin's father was hospitalised with a stroke, his lawyers filed a petition requesting that Konstantin be allowed to leave his apartment to care for his father. His father passed away, and Konstantin did not have time to say goodbye to him. On 24 June, the investigator did not extend the measure. On 14 July, the investigation dropped Yankauskas’ case.
