Biography
Zavalin, a resident of Astrakhan, is a trade union activist. 9 January 2022 he was detained after a picket against sending troops to Kazakhstan, but later released without charges. In early February, the police visited him home twice, but he did not open the door. Zavalin has not received any summons from the police, regardless, 2 March he was violently detained by law enforcement officers and charged with disobeying police, which resulted in 10 days of administrative arrest as per court order. In early February, the police visited him home twice, but he did not open the door. Zavalin has not received any summons from the police, regardless, 2 March he was violently detained by law enforcement officers and charged with disobeying police, which resulted in 10 days of administrative arrest as per court order. Zavalin filed a complaint against officers' unlawful acts, in response, the police filed a case against him for assaulting a local policeman. Supposedly, the initial assault allegation considered it to be life-threatening, but latter part was dropped. The case went to trial 6 May. 12 May, the court ordered to take Zavalin into custody. 24 June 2022 the court sentenced Zavalin to 1.5 years of community service. The facility where Zavalin was being detained deemed him a habitual violator of order.
In March 2023, Zavalin, who had already served his sentence, claimed that his record of employment book was not returned to him.
