Entrepreneur, lives in Israel. In the past, he was one of the heads of the Yukos oil company, one of the presidents of the Russian Jewish Congress, rector of the Russian State University for the Humanities, and a member of the Federation Council. On 4 July 2003 Nevzlin was summoned for questioning in the case of Platon Lebedev, one of the co-owners of Yukos, about the theft of Apatit shares. Shortly thereafter, he left for Israel. On 1 August 2008, Nevzlin was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment. On 24 May 2013, Nevzlin was sentenced in absentia to six years' imprisonment in a new case involving the embezzlement of shares in the Eastern Oil Company, which was taken over by Yukos.
