Biography
Magomednabi Magomedov (Sildinsky), the imam of the Vostochnaya mosque, was detained on 8 April 2016 after demanding the release of worshippers from the Bolnichnaya mosque who had been detained by police following Friday prayers in Makhachkala. Initially taken to an unknown location, it was later revealed that he was being held at the Centre for Countering Extremism of the Interior Ministry in Makhachkala. Magomedov was taken into custody as part of a criminal investigation into charges of incitement to terrorism and hatred. The charges were linked to a sermon he delivered on 5 February 2016 in the village of Vostochny

The charges were linked to a sermon he delivered on 5 February 2016 in the village of Vostochny Khasavyurt, in which he criticized the ongoing pressure on Salafists by law enforcement agencies and called for peaceful unity in the defense of community rights.
Magomedov was repeatedly moved between different detention facilities and reported being subjected to torture.
On 24 November 2016, he was sentenced to five years in a general-regime colony. The court of second instance reduced his sentence by six months on 26 January 2017. Magomedov was released in June 2020.
On 25 September 2024, he was officially removed from Rosfinmonitoring's list of extremists and terrorists.
