Makmalbek Mazhitov

Labour migrant, worked in Sakhalin. In February 2023, a case was brought against him for participation in the activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the activities of the Islamic movement Tablighi Jamaat. Its adherents are persecuted solely because of their religious activities. On 18 January 2024, Mazhitov was sentenced to two and a half years in a general regime colony. On 2 June 2025, his deportation was ordered. On 20 September 2025, Mazhitov was released. In all likelihood, he was immediately detained and sent to a detention centre for foreign nationals.
