On 18 April 2018, a criminal case was opened against Motuznaya. She found out about it on 8 May, when her flat was searched and then she was taken for questioning. Motuznaya was intimidated and forced to sign a confession. She was given a covenant not to leave the country. At first the case was opened under the article on humiliation of dignity on the grounds of race, then the charge of insulting the feelings of believers was added. In the protocol of examination of Motuznaya's computer it was written that there were images of swastikas and Hitler, Motuznaya denies

In the protocol of examination of Motuznaya's computer it was written that there were images of swastikas and Hitler, Motuznaya denies it. On 6 August the court started to consider the case. On 9 October the case was returned to the prosecutor's office. On 17 October Motuznaya reported that she left Russia. In December, it became known that the case was sent for additional investigation. In January 2019, the Investigative Committee reported the termination of the case.
