Biography
On March 2, 2016, nine residents of Makhachkala were brought in for questioning by the police on suspicion of involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir. Among them, Murad Valiev, Magomed Magomedov, Gadzhi Ramazanov, and Sharip Habibov were subsequently arrested.
On February 21, 2017, it became known that Murad Valiev, accused under Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (organising the activities of a terrorist organisation) and Part 1 of Article 30 and Article 278 of the Criminal Code (preparation for a forcible seizure of power), had his case referred to court.

On March 10, 2017, the North Caucasus District Military Court sentenced Valiev to five years' imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony, along with one year and three months of liberty restriction. He was convicted under Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (organising the activities of a terrorist organisation) and Part 1 of Article 30 of Article 278 of the Criminal Code (preparation for a forcible seizure of power). Valiev pleaded guilty, and the case was processed under a special procedure. He was released in March 2021.
