Biography
Mykola Karpyuk is a Ukrainian citizen, one of the leaders of the Right Sector. On 17 March 2014, he was detained by the FSB when he tried to enter the territory of the Russian Federation to negotiate with Putin. Arrested on charges of killing Russian servicemen in Chechnya in 1994-1995. Another defendant in the case, Alexander Malofeev, testified against him (apparently as a result of torture). For a year and a half nothing was known about Karpyuk, he was not allowed to conclude an agreement with a lawyer, and the consul was not allowed to visit him. During this time,

During this time, he managed to confess to himself and other people involved in the case. He retracted his testimony when a defence lawyer was able to intervene under an agreement. He stated that he gave them after torture and threats to his wife and child. Claims that he has never been to Chechnya. In September 2015, the Supreme Court of Chechnya began the hearing of the case.
The jury found Karpyuk guilty. On 26 May 2016, the court sentenced him to twenty-two and a half years in a strict regime colony.
On 7 September 2019, Karpyuk was pardoned and released as part of the exchange of Ukrainian political prisoners for a group of people released by Ukraine, arrived on the territory of Ukraine.
