She was placed under arrest. Savchenko claims that she was forcibly transported to Russia under armed guard and held under armed guard in a hotel between June 24 and July 1. She was accused of adjusting the fire of the assault battalion "Aidar" on June 17 in the vicinity of the Metallist settlement in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of VGTRK (All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin. The investigation, citing the "particularly brutal nature of the crime that raises doubts about her sanity", ordered a stationary psychological-psychiatric examination for Savchenko, and she was transported to Moscow. On March 22, 2016, the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov region sentenced her to 22 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of 30,000 rubles.
On May 25, 2016, Savchenko left Russia on the plane of the Ukrainian President. On the same day, information about her pardon by the Russian president appeared.
On July 15, 2014, the European Court of Human Rights initiated proceedings in the case of Nadezhda Savchenko against Russia. The case was given priority status.
