Nikita Timonin

From 2020 until March 2022, he served in the Ukrainian "Azov" regiment as a rifleman-grenadier. On 13 April 2022, he was detained in Mariupol. He was charged with violent seizure and retention of power, participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation, and undergoing training for the purpose of committing terrorist acts. Human rights activists have emphasised that he is a prisoner of war and, therefore, should not have been prosecuted essentially for participating in combat. Furthermore, they regard the charges as absurd. On 26 March 2025, Nikita was sentenced to 22 years in a high-security penal colony.
