A municipal deputy from St. Petersburg, Yuferev, along with other deputies from Smolninsky, sent an appeal to the State Duma on September 7, 2022, stating that "the president's decision to launch the SVO [special military operation] is detrimental to the security of Russia and its citizens," and demanded Putin's impeachment for state treason. Two days later, it was reported that five of them, including Yuferev, were subjected to protocols on discrediting the army. According to Mediazona, this was connected with publications about their proposal to remove Vladimir Putin from the office of the President "in connection with high treason." On September 13, the Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg acknowledged that the municipal council of the district could be dissolved. The prosecutor's office had made such a request back in July 2021, but the case was suspended in November. It was resumed on the day the deputies appealed to the State Duma. On March 20, 2024, the Smolninsky council was dissolved by the city authorities of St. Petersburg. Additionally, when the appeal was received in the State Duma, United Russia deputy Mikhail Romanov forwarded the document to Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, and Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, as reported by Rotonda. The United Russia requested an investigation into Yuferev's actions, stating that he "repeatedly publicly spread information aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation." Yuferev left Russia in October 2022.

In March 2024, it was reported that a criminal case had been opened against Yuferev for discrediting the Armed Forces.
