Biography
Resident of Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine), participant of the 2014 Euromaidan protests in Kyiv. In March 2014, he went to Sevastopol to guard the participants of Taras Shevchenko's 200th anniversary rally. After a scuffle with provocateurs, he was detained and charged with attempted murder and illegal transportation of weapons. In his own words, he wanted to scare them away and fired a pistol into the ground. After being detained, he was beaten with a stun gun. Shiptur was placed in custody. On 28 April 2015, he was sentenced to ten years in a strict regime colony. On 16 June 2015, the appeal court dropped the weapons charge and reduced the sentence by one year. Shiptur was released on 7 March 2023 and sent to a temporary detention centre for foreign citizens. On 18 May, he was released from there.
