Oleg Tyshkul

From 2015 to 23 July 2021, he served in the Ukrainian "Azov" regiment as an instructor (mechanic-driver) in a special operations company and in other roles before being discharged. On 4 April 2022, he was detained in Mariupol. He was charged with violent seizure and retention of power, organising the activities of a terrorist organisation and undergoing training for the purpose of committing terrorist acts. Human rights activists have pointed out that he is a prisoner of war and, therefore, he should not have been prosecuted essentially for participating in combat. Furthermore, they consider the charges to be absurd. On 26 March 2025, Oleg was sentenced to 22 years in a high-security penal colony.
