The essence of the charge is that Parpulov, in a conversation with a resident of Georgia, told him information published on the website of the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.
The case was investigated under "Secret"; even after the indictment, the investigation did not inform the defence of the list of information constituting a state secret, which Parpulov allegedly gave out, referring to the fact that the list is also classified.
In January 2016, he was sentenced to twelve years in a strict regime colony. In 2022, the defence managed to secure Parpulov's release on health grounds from the ninth time. He was released on 20 July 2022. On 17 January, the court of cassation instance cancelled the decision of the court of appeal instance, which approved the decision to release Parpulov, and sent the case for a new consideration.
