He was detained and taken into custody in June 2021. He was charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation in connection with his alleged involvement in the Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which has no connection to terrorism. On 12 July 2023, he was sentenced to 12 years in a strict regime colony.
