On 25 May 2021, he was identified as a suspect in a criminal case on charges of participation in the ATWH. Abdurakhmanov claims that he and his companions "Ishmetov Ruslan, Sabirov Rif, Nikolai Bachin, Gaianov Rizvan were forced by threats and blackmail to confess that we were members of the organisation At-Takfir Val-Hijra and initiated criminal proceedings against us". On 23 September 2022 he was sentenced under part 2 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an extremist organisation, up to 6 years' imprisonment), the punishment is unknown. He was under a recognisance
