On 20 March 2018, Roman Udot was detained at Sheremetyevo airport after an incident with NTV journalist Alexandra Miroshnichenko. This was preceded by a series of propaganda films by the TV channel, which reported false information about the Golos movement, Udot and his family. Correspondents repeatedly harassed the activist and his relatives. During an incident on 20 March 2018, Udot snatched a mobile phone from a female journalist, making suspicion of theft the official reason for detention. Udot returned the phone after filing a complaint against the journalist for breach of privacy and violation of the secrecy of correspondence and negotiations. In the morning of 21 March Udot was released from the police station.

In April, while in Europe, Udot learnt that a case of death threat had been brought against him because during an altercation with Miroshnichenko he had said: "I'll kill you one day!" The case was suspended, but Udot was put on a federal wanted list.

In May 2019, Udot returned to Russia. On 15 May, he came to the police department of Sheremetyevo Airport with a request to reopen the case and interrogate him. On 20 May, after the interrogation, Udot was detained and sent to a temporary detention centre; on 22 May, the court chose a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest. On 9 July Udot was released from house arrest, and a preventive measure was chosen in the form of a ban on certain actions - leaving the house at night, communicating with the participants of the case, using the Internet and mobile phones. On 11 July the court toughened this measure, reducing the time spent out of the house and prohibiting him from attending rallies.

On 28 November the court sentenced Udot to 320 hours of compulsory labour.
