Sergey Arefiev

Communications engineer for Kyivstar in Kherson. He was detained on 23 March 2022, when he went shopping for groceries with a friend. First he was held in Kherson, then he was transferred to Simferopol. Arefiev was accused of espionage. Sergei's wife said that in May 2022 she received a call in Telegram, and an unfamiliar male voice offered to talk to Sergei. She said she had left Kherson, and Sergei was relieved - he was worried that the Russians might have pressurised him because of his family. The man who allowed the call promised that Sergei would return home in a month and a half, assuring him that he was "giving his word as an officer". However, he did not keep his promise. Presumably, in the autumn of 2023, Arefiev was sentenced to 11 and a half years in a strict regime colony.
