In March 2024, Fyodorov was subjected to an inspection of the premises in Togliatti, where he was living at the time. Fyodorov was handcuffed, kicked in the head, and then held on the floor on his knees with his arms folded and raised high behind his back while the inspection took place. According to Fyodorov and his wife, several books and flash drives were planted on them during the inspection. Fyodorov was taken to Petrozavodsk for questioning and then released. On 6 June 2024, a case was initiated against him for organising activities of an extremist organisation due to his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, attracting new supporters. On June 20, Fyodorov's home was searched in Petrozavodsk, after which he was detained. The next day he was taken into custody.
