Sergey Gromov

He was detained on 15 March 2022 at an airport in Moscow. Gromov was transported to Kazan, where he was searched. On 17 March, the court placed him into custody as a suspect in a case of organising activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses. Members of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, attracting new supporters. Later he was also charged with financing extremist activities. On 14 September 2023, Gromov was sentenced to six years and one month in prison.
