Vitaly Barinov

School teacher, resident of Kansk (Krasnoyarsk region). In the past, he worked as a juvenile affairs inspector. In October 2022, he was detained on charges of shooting a banner advertising military service. Barinov told his lawyer Vladimir Vasin that after his detention he was tortured: his hands were broken and he was electrocuted. He tried to fix the marks of beatings, but in the certificate of 17 October the doctor of the state Kansk hospital explained the injuries by a fall in the street. Barinov was also accused of threatening to kill (Article 119 of the Criminal Code) a neighbour whom he met after the banner shooting. According to his lawyer, he was also going to be forced to confess to setting fire to a military recruitment office in Kansk on 24 September 2022, but this episode was not included in the case in the end. From Kansk, the teacher was transferred to the pre-trial detention centre in Krasnoyarsk, where he was beaten and threatened with rape. His lawyer was not allowed to see him several times. The investigation took place in Krasnoyarsk, but then the case was transferred to the Kansk City Court. On 21 April 2023, Barinov was sentenced to two years and ten days in a general regime colony. On 11 June 2024, Barinov was released.
