At the time of detention Vladimir was a "Left Front" activist. He was detained on 10 June 2012 and accused of having "broken the cordon of armed forces and OMON officers" on Bolotnaya Square on 6 May 2012, "chanted anti-government slogans", and also of having "found and deliberately thrown a flag pole 50 metres away, hitting an unidentified" OMON officer in the chest. At the same time, Akimenkov has very poor eyesight. The prosecution did not provide any evidence of guilt, and Akimenkov's actions were not qualified under Article 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a police
