The prosecution demanded that Ionov be sentenced to three years' suspended imprisonment. On 21 December, two days before making his last word in court, Ionov said that he had left Russia and was on the territory of Ukraine. On 19 January 2016, he was put on the federal wanted list. In August 2016, he was granted refugee status. In January 2018, Ionov's case was returned to the prosecutor's office.
