Yaroslav Levchenko

He was a specialist in trawl fishing and lived in Kamchatka. Those close to Levchenko claim that he held anti-war views and a criminal case was opened against him after he broke up a fight on a ship and was hit on the head with a bottle by one of the participants. When he went to the police to report the assault, he was told that he himself had been denounced for not supporting the war and for expressing sympathy for Ukraine. The court order taking Levchenko into custody lists his attacker as well as the ship's captain as witnesses. Levchenko was fired from the fishing company (according to other sources, he quit on his own), it gave him a negative characterisation for the court. A criminal case was also opened against the attacker. In January 2024 Levchenko was released on his own recognisance. On 7 November 2024, he was sentenced to two years in a penal colony.
