Yury Staroverov is the head of the Other Russia branch in Nizhny Novgorod and a participant of many protest actions in the city. On 18 April 2013, he was charged with using violence against a representative of the authorities - the attack on OMON warrant officer Igor Lebedev at the Nizhny Novgorod civil rally on 15 September 2012. Lebedev was beating activists while dispersing the rally. First, Lebedev accused Another Russia activist Ekaterina Zaitseva of attacking himself, whom he himself beat so badly that she was hospitalised. Zaitseva and Staroverov were then tried as witnesses in the case, but on 26 December Staroverov was transferred to the status of a suspect. Civil activists, eyewitnesses to the event, claim that Staroverov did not grab Lebedev by the neck, as the prosecution claims. Video footage also does not confirm Staroverov's guilt. Prosecution witnesses are confused in their testimony. On 20 March 2014, the prosecution requested four years' imprisonment in a penal colony for Staroverov. Nizhny Novgorod District Court of Nizhny Novgorod, represented by Judge Andrei Shutov, sentenced him to three years suspended sentence. On 10 February 2016, on the initiative of the Centre for Countering Extremism, the Ostankinsky District Court of Moscow replaced Staroverov's suspended sentence with a real one in a general regime colony. On 10 February 2017, the Presidium of the Moscow City Court replaced the place of serving the sentence with a settlement colony.

On 4 February 2019, he was released.
