On 22 July 2021, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced the detention of seven people on suspicion of involvement in an attempted terrorist attack on a police station in Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory, in April this year. Ismailov was among them.
He was accused of participating in the activities of the religious association At-Takfir wal-Hijra. On 30 May 2022, he and the other six detained in July 2021 were added to the register of extremists and terrorists. Ismailov was the only one marked with an asterisk, which means prosecution under the terrorist article. Later it became known that he was accused of financing terrorist activities as a supporter of the "Islamic State". At the moment we have no grounds to consider this part of the prosecution as political.
On 22 May 2023, Interfax, citing the FSB press service, reported that Ismailov was sentenced to nine years in a strict regime colony. The information could not be found on the court's website.
